I hate Thomas Jones and Maurice Jones Drew!

MJDSeriously. I faced at least three teams in the 10 leagues that I'm in that had both of these guys on their starting roster yesterday. Needless to say I lost all of those games. Another guy I played had only Thomas Jones, however he had the Jets D which ended up gaining him about 25 points! I'm happy for all of you guys that were lucky enough to start Jones or Jones Drew yesterday because you probably won, but I'm very bitter this morning. I figured when Cutler and Eddie Royal gave me nearly 60 points on Thursday that I would easily win that matchup, well not according to Jones and Jones Drew. You know what the best part is, I will gaurantee that both Thomas Jones and Maurice Jones Drew won't do anything next week. Both have incredibly poor matchups and I wouldn't be suprised if one or both lay you a goose egg.

Anyways my rant is over. Here are my other thoughts from week 10.TJ

Did any of you sit Brandon Jacobs last night because you thought he was going to have a poor game against a solid Eagles run D? Well let me tell you something, the Eagles run D is overrated. Earlier in the year Clinton Portis had a monster game against the Iggles, so from here on out if you have a stud RB that has a solid offensive line, I would not sit them against the Eagles. The Giants proved last night that the Eagles can be run on.

Rookie QB's continue to perform. Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Matt Cassel (essentially a rookie) and Tyler Thigpen are continuing to outperform critics expectations. A couple of these guys have turned out to be solid fantasy options as well. Matt Ryan, Tyler Thigpen and Flacco have had double digit fantasy numbers the past two weeks. Of the four I would worry about Flacco the most going forward, as he has the entire NFC East left remaining on his schedule.

What the hell happened to Jake Delhomme? I thought he was going to have a monster game as I said in my Start'em Sit'em article on Friday. Unfortunately he had a QB rating of 12.5. By the end of this game I was hoping that Darth Vader would emerge from the Black Hole and force choke him, because he was killing me. I'm not saying drop him, but I'd be nervous.

Did I mention that I hate RBBC. Deciding who to start every week in fantasy football is hard enough, now I have coaches screwing with my teams. Last week Ray Rice had a monster game even though Willis McGahee was listed as active and scheduled to start. So this week McGahee was listed as active but I'm sure many of you like myself went with Ray Rice after seeing last weeks performance. Well guess what? Jim Harbaugh hates you and so does Mike Shanahan as well as Bill Beilichick. The only RBBC I would trust right now is The Giants, as Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw are averaging about the same number of yards each week. With Jacobs being the main back followed by Ward then Bradshaw.

Until next week.

The Art of the deal.

I'm currently in about 10 leagues and I finally pulled off my first trade this week. Not that I haven't tried to work out a deal earlier mind you, I just couldn't find any offers to my liking. The question I asked myself is, why is it so hard to make a big trade in fantasy football?

Week 6 thoughts.

Ok, another fantasy football week is almost in the books, what am I thinking?

I think that all of you should be very hesitant to play any Patriots. Cassel is inexperienced and it is starting to show. It's having a trickle down effect on everyone including Randy Moss and Wes Welker. The Patriots RB core has been a mess from day one and you may as well start Corey Dillon because who knows maybe it's his turn to be the Pats featured RB this week, even though he's retired. Gostowski still might be a safe kicker option but there are probably safer bets out there.

The Colts look like they have returned to form, of course this was the same week I dropped Marvin Harrison on all of the teams in which I owned him. Addai was injured during the game however Dominic Rhodes played well in his absence. Addai has been somewhat of a disappointment all season long, and if his injury is serious Rhodes may be someone you want to consider picking up off the waiver wire. I'm still a bit skeptical on Marvelous Marvin's return to form until I see more.

Everyone off the Jason Campbell train! Last week everyone was singing Campbell's praises for his performances over the Cowboys and Eagles. Surely Campbell was bound to have a average to above average game over the lowly Rams right? Wrong. I was expecting everyone on the Skins' to have a fairly good game but besides Portis and Antwan Randle El if you owned and started any Redskins you were probably pretty disappointed.

I also think if you own Matt Hasselback, Carson Palmer or after tonight Derek Anderson you should drop them and look elsewhere for a QB. There are better options out there including Matt Ryan, Kyle Orton, Matt Schaub and dare I say it Chad "The Cannon" Pennington.

TIME TO PANIC!

We are about a third of the way through the fantasy football season and some of you are struggling. Your team is 0-5 or 1-4 and your finger is inching towards the panic button. You may be wondering if all hope is lost? Well, unlike our economy your fantasy football team may still have a fighting chance. I'm in about 10 leagues and am doing well in over half of them, however a few of my teams are under performing or I just didn't draft well. But am I about to throw in the towel? Hell no! Did young Rudy Ruetigger give up when he failed to make it into his beloved Notre Dame after one or two tries. No, he did not, so we can't give up on those teams that seem doomed for failure just yet. But how can we make a miraculous turnaround and fight for a playoff spot?

What I see a lot when people's teams aren't performing well is that they start to make wholesale roster cuts. Slow down, cutting someone is all well and good but trading for something valuable is even better. Don't just cut the under performing fantasy superstar of years past try and put some feelers out to a couple of other players in your league to see if there is any interest first. While you may not have the time to wait for your supposed surefire stud to turn things around, a player who's roster is performing well may will willing to take the risk on your dud, in hopes that he turns things around.

Check the schedules! This applies more so to public leagues where for some reason a bunch of people abandon their teams and provide and easy schedule for others. While you may be 1-4 and the leader of your league is 4-1, his record may be suspect due to the fact that he played a bunch of softies. You know the people that leave half their team filled with bye week players giving his or her opponent an easy win.

Third question you have to ask is what is your average point total compared to the rest of your league per week? Are you consistently putting up solid numbers each week but happen to matchup with the guy that ends up having all of the aberration type players on his roster that week? (I'm looking at you DeAngelo Williams) If you are consistently putting up good numbers chances are points will fade out for the aberrations and you will remain consistent.

Scour the waiver wires!! This is a no brainer really but even late in the season you may find a gem, or be lucky enough to take advantage of one of your fellow owners who has pushed his panic button. Case in point being when I picked up Ben Rothliesburger off waivers in a league where I was struggling with QB problems.

The point of all of this is that it's never to early to give up. Yes it's true you probably shouldn't have drafted Tom Brady in the first round when you could've gotten Kyle Orton in the sixteenth. But that is what makes this game so fun, trying to salvage your team from impending destruction and laughing at your opponent who's trying to rescue his.
